How it was done
It was recovered as a single encrusted lump from a shipwreck off Antikythera in 1901. Conservation separated it into 82 fragments. In 1902, Spyridon Stais noticed a gear, prompting Valerios Stais to begin study. Computer X-ray tomography by Cardiff University in 2005 enabled internal imaging and inscription reading.
